No Strings Attached

I'm issuing a challenge, mostly for myself, to use up my scraps by making string projects.  Care to join me?  This is a worldwide challenge--meant to be fun, stress free, and accountable to no one but yourself.  If you sign up and then want to drop out...just let me know.  See--hassle free challenge.  Here are the details:
ss
*This is a personal challenge, not a swap
*Make your blocks any size you want.  There are many tutorials available but you can refer to yesterday's blog post here for my "how to"
*Make any projects you want--tablerunner, quilt, clothes, pillows--whatever tickles your fancy--but they must be string projects
*Make as many projects as your heart desires
*You must use scraps or fabrics you already have.  The only fabric you are "allowed" to buy is for border, backing, binding, lining if necessary and only if necessary.  Remember this is a challenge to use what you have.  Also you may need to purchase the muslin for the foundation.
*Blog preferred but if you want to participate and are blogless be prepared to send me photos of your finished projects
*Once you finish a project share it on your blog and let me know...I'll keep a number total by your name.
*Projects must be completed by June 30
*I must have a way to contact you so if you are one of the dreaded "no reply comment" people you'll need to make sure I have a valid e-mail address.  Your e-mail address will be kept private.
s
Interested?  Send me an e-mail at loftcreations@gmail.comPlease include your name, e-mail, and blog link. I don't want to have to hunt you down for the complete info--it's too time consuming.  No limit on participants.  Once you see your name listed under the button on my side bar please grab the button and put it on your blog linking back to me.  Deadline to sign-up is January 22 15 (oops!)
s
I'm thinking about prizes once the challenge is finished.  What do you think?  Anyone interested in donating a prize please e-mail me.
s

Mmmm, this looks like fun. I wasn't going to join a challenge this year, but how can I resist this one? And it is such a good way to use my scraps that I discovered while (and still am) cleaning up.
I will email you right now.
Have a lovely day!

Yes indeed, very challenging! I love using up my scraps!
I'll mail you too.

This is too funny Stephanie.
I was going to challenge bloggers with this very same thing myself (with a twist), so I am in!! Please add me to your list.

These are so much fun and my first is well under way, as I'm thinking the same way.
Thanks for doing this.

After reading your yesterday’s post I remembered I had a box filled with string blocks of African fabrics I received from a friend. So thank you for the inspiration!

I plan to make a quilt from these blocks in a quilt-as-you-go way.

I like stress free!! I am in! Grabbing the button now! Thanks Stephanie.

I'm in and I'll also donate a prize. Email to follow.

I was trying to design a button to challenge others to use up their scraps, but you did it already, and in such a nice way!

This sounds sooooo stress free, just what I need. Isn't there a group that makes up string quilts and donates them? Maybe some of the finished items could be donated if we had an over abundance of quilts:)I was just thinking out loud, That's my thought anyway. So count me in. I'll shoot you an email.

Count me in this sounds like so much fun. What a great idea! Heaven knows if I don't get using up scraps they are going to take over my sewing room.

Great idea. I'm in. Sending my email.

Oh what fun! So much more fun to have others to brag with and enjoy show and tell. I am on my 13th or 14th string class sample since Aug .
I'm presenting a day long workshop on Jan 23 - but I know that now I'm started - there's no stopping me. I'll send my blog address and name in an email. Thanks Nina

I'll join...I started some blocks for a friend's hubby who had to go into a nursing home, and after finding how easy they are, was excited about using up all my scraps.......but haven't done any more.

This challenge will get me motivated agin.

I use good quality white cotton sheets from the thrift shop for my backing...more re-cycling and much cheaper than buying muslin. Baby sheets are good, not worn as much.

I just did a post about making some string quilts and Sherri from A Quilting Life pointed me in this direction. I am really excited about joining the ranks!

One favor please...could you respond to my comment so I can email you back with my info? When I click on your e-mail link it goes to Outlook and I don't use it for my e-mail and I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to redirect it. Thanks!

Wow - after talking to others wanting to use up scraps and stash this year, you are the clever one to issue the challenge! Thanks, Stephanie for another fun project!
Cheers!

Yes please - I had decided that this year would be the one I risk patchwork on the machine (I've only done it by hand before now), and your challenge seems the perfect way to complete my resolution! I've emailed my details to you thanks very much for issuing this challenge!

Stephanie, found your blog via Canton Village Quilt Works
I've got a drawer full of strips just waiting to be used.
So, at this point I'll commit to your Challenge.
Am looking forward to the next six months.

Hi and hello. I am in for sure. Thank you for taking the time to host this challenge , you make bloggland more fun !!! ;-))

I love your new header, Stephanie!

I won't be doing your challenge, as last year was "the year of the strings" for me, and I'm dying to cut into some actual yardage. But I will be following what everyone is doing, as I love the inspiration. Your project you posted last is just wonderful - great colors and energy!

I still have one more quilt to assemble from all the string blocks I made last year, for a total of 3 quilts!

Another fantastic way to use up some of my scrap mountain .... as I've just finished an upcycled quilt I thought this would make a perfect next project.

I have been collecting "strings" for awhile now--thinking someday I will sew these together--HA ha--BUT maybe the laugh is on me--cause now there is a challenge and now I have a "reason" to actually sew them together and then even get creative--I can handle that!!!
Hugs, Di&co.

Even though I am too late to sign up officially, I have decided to accept the challenge on my own. I think it will be a great "in between" project. I'll start poking through my boxes of strips this afternoon.

claire said...

As above I know I'm too late, but would like to take the challenge...procrastinate is my middle name!!! After cutting strips for a friend who has signed up..I got the itch to do some myself...I'm currently hexing by hand so a quicker project will be light relief!!

Well, I am too late to be part of the official challenge, but I do think I would like to try making these blocks... they look like so much fun! So I will just send you a picture of whatever I end up with. :-) Your string quilt is gorgeous!!
