Sewing

I first saw Crumb blocks from Bonnie at Quiltviille.  She shares a tutorial she calls Crumb Piecing.  Victoria is doing 15 minutes a day.  Kim and Shari are playing along.  As I was organizing my scraps I decided to play too.  I'm pretty sure I spent more than 15 minutes playing.

After playing with my scraps I decided to play with zippers.  Rumi  is the zipper queen.  She's going to teach me.   However, I decided to play on my own...no hand holding.  Not bad looking huh?

This pattern says Fast, Fun, and Easy--Nancy helps you sew like a professional!  Nancy assumes you know what your zipper foot looks like and how to use it.  Nancy doesn't know me.  Fast and Easy--definitely not for a beginner.  Fun--well let's just say I didn't throw it out the window.  It makes a lovely zippy pouch if you know what you're doing. I made notes...I'll try again with Rumi's help.

Playing is a ton of fun! You had some very productive playing. Love the block! Even though Nancy assumed a lot, you did a fantastic job!

15 minutes a day sounds achievable. Though I need to iron all my scraps first and it’s just to hot to tackle that!

Love your scrappy block and the sneak peek of your zippered pouch. The birdie fabric is co cute!

Hey your zippy pouch looks great! You are better at zippers than me, girl!

Like your crumb block. I saw Sheri's too. Maybe I'll play along too!

Cute pouch and good for you, putting in that zipper! I recently learned what a zipper foot is and how you use it.
The way you put in the zipper does look professional!

A very funky block. And you did a great job with the zipper. Zippers make me nervous but everyone says "oh, they are easy." I still have not done one since Home Ec. class many years ago.

Nice scrappy block!! You have good brights too! ;-) Zippers.. they are a funny thing... sometimes I can do it really well, and then next , I'm lousy... go figure... best not to rush them... ;-) fun playing!

Love the quilt block! How come I can never think to sew 15 minutes a day? It makes perfect sense.
I should use those 15 minutes to work on my zippers - definitely not my forte - yet!

I'm also a zipper neophyte. I bought a couple to play with but, lacking a zipper foot, have not yet done so. One day...

enjoy playing with yours :)

I don't know how much time and nerves you used, but the zipper looks just perfectly sewn to the cute pouch.

Your pouch is darling, and your zipper looks good. I just threw away one I tried to do because of the zipper. Me and zippers don't get along. It goes way back to middle school home ec when Mrs Carroll told me I'd never learn to sew and should give up because it took me 14 tries to put that dumb zipper in that horrible skirt they made us wear to school. Highly traumatic. Love the block, just checked out the link for it, looks fun.

Love your block, very cute! And your little pouch looks great! The first time I sewed a pouch with a zipper I forgot to unzip it halfway and ran over the actual zipper with my sewing machine! My sewing machine hasn't been the same since. :-)

Looks great to me, Stephanie. I too try to stay away from zippers as much as possible. Maybe if someone showed me I wouldn't be so apprehensive.

Looks pretty good to me as well. I also like the crumb block, lovely and colourful.

Cute block, Stephanie! The pops of polka dots add so much prettiness to it :)
Birdie pouch is adorable! Glad the zipper didn't give you any trouble. Have fun with the 15-min. play :)

So glad you are joining us at 15 minutes play. I can't have a day without you it seems, but that is the good part of any day!

I like your zippy pouch--you did real good--I have always "hated" sewing in zippers--but have discovered that on the pouches and such--they are really not very hard!!

Love your crumb block! You have super scraps! And your zipper looks pretty nifty, too. Congratulations to you for doing it all by yourself!

Goody 0 more scrappy blocks! Love the fabrics in this one! I think your zipper looks perfect, Stephanie! I sewed a lot of garments as a young woman and always hated zippers....probably why I stay away from the nowadays! If you learn some good secrets, I'm all ears!
Cheers!

Crumb quilting is very interesting. I had a basket full of those tiny scraps that I used in my foundation pieces and just the other day went through it and tossed most of them out. Ah, a day late and a dollar short, as they say. I also played zipper, but didn't have the same success as you! However, I'll not give up! ~karen
