Fall is my very favorite time of year. The colors are warm, rich, earthy. I thought I'd share some of my favorite oldies. Some of you may not believe these are colors I predominantly worked with before moving away from "the dark side." I sold this one.
I heart baskets. I did the machine quilting, all straight lines, trying to mimic a basket weave pattern in the basket blocks. Sold. Darn. I do realize I just can't keep them all.
This was a class using the square in a square ruler that I never mastered. There was lots of giggling with a friend while we tried to "get" how to use the ruler.

This was a pumpkin block challenge in the late 90s with my California Friendship Group. We called ourselves the Harvey Wallhangers. I used leftover blocks from previous projects and added a few new ones to make Pumpkin Soup. I still have this and display it every Autumn. I want to make more quilts like this, one day.
I purchased many of the fabrics in this quilt while living in Japan. It's called Okutama, after a beautiful mountain region we visited.

Do you recognize Thimbleberries? I used to love working with plaids too.
I remember collecting plaids for this quilt, almost breaking out in hives with the stash I was accumulating. Back then my stash consisted of 2 shelves in a closet at the end of our hallway, and my sewing machine was a permanent fixture at the end of our kitchen table.
This quilt still lives with us. It's called Murphy's Law. My son claimed it for his new room in our new house in Oregon in 1997. I love how the squares float. This was made in my early quilting days and I am proud to say I "designed" it myself. It was a struggle at times. I cut the set in triangles wrong so many times that I kept having to go back to the quilt shop for more blue fabric. That is why I call it Murphy's Law because if anything could go wrong, it did.

Beautiful quilts! My favorite? The Thimbleberries one... Don't see your love of green in these beauties. Is that something that changed in recent years?
They are all wonderful, but I just love everything about the leaf quilt....the colors, the quilting that looks like swirling wind, and the way the leaves tumble off the bottom of the quilt. Beautiful!
I love the baskets and the Okutama quilt!
I often regret I didn’t discover the world of quilting before I actually did.
Aren't they just beautiful! Funny how are tastes change as we grow.
Those are all wonderful autumn quilts. The colors are warm and comforting.
What a fun peek into your quilting past! They are all lovely, but my favorite is Murphy's Law...so cozy and inviting!

Love your quilts Stephanie. I think my favorite is the Fall quilt with the kitty.
Great quilts...now that it is cooler, they look like great "snugglers". I especially like the falling leaves.
Beautiful fall colors--Fall is my favorite time to decorate too but I don't have any fall quilts, per se. I'm still in my "dark period", lol!
Nice look back at your homes around the world!
I love all your quilts, they are just beautiful. Linda
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
It's nice to see your "beginnings" and how you evolved into the talented designer you now are.
Even though I too have moved away from the dark side, I like Murphy's Law.
I can't believe these are your quilts!! I had to look over them twice! They are all gorgeous and would fit perfectly at my house. It's amazing how our tastes change over the years. I, too am becoming so drawn to brighter, more contemporary fabrics. Yet, I still love the reproductions! I'm glad that you kept some of the quilts. Thanks so much for sharing!
How much fun seeing some of your older quilts. No wonder you still display the pumpkin quilt, it is really cute. Interesting to see how your preferences in fabrics have changed. I guess not just yours but many of us, I remember when I first started to think about quilting how I was bored by the fabrics in my lqs, not anymore, it's just the opposite. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Enjoyed your show and tell! So different from what you make and show now, but nertheless very pretty!
How fun that your son actually claimed a quilt.
Thanks for the show...I used to love Thimbleberries too...nice to see our tastes change!
Fall is my favorite time of year, too! And I love getting out the fall quilts. And I have several quilts from before I moved over from the "dark side" too...great post!
sweet quilts for a sweet season! I love the BLUE in the last one..
you do DARKS well too! ;-)
All beautiful quilts! So glad that you kept some of them and that they are being loved.
What a fun travel in time, Stephanie! It's amazing how our work evolves! And to think you've been a designer from the beginning!
Cheers!
They are all so beautiful! especially the maple leaf!
This one on the bottom-"Murphy's Law"- that's the one that has me humming to start another project. I think it is the overall blue and the plaids, it's yummy!
Love all your fall inspired quilts! Love the one with the Japanese textiles - what a lovely way to remember your time there. I recognise many of the thimble berries fabrics - I used to be really of fond of them too!
I do believe you could write a book called "the evolution of a quilter." This is just so cool to see what you started out making and comparing it to what you make today.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful quilts, Stephanie! It's hard to pick a favorite. I love them all and their warm colors. Your pictures are gorgeous!
What a great collection of you quilts you have and have had. I can see why the first two sold, Great!
I like you Fall Sampler quilt alot.
Lovely colour (my taste today, and yesterday), but I loved the story of the Murphy's Law quilt most. Happens to me still.
what a ride and it is so nice to see what has been made over the years!! Your quilts are very special and I can understand your son claiming the blue quilt ;-))
Gosh this is a really enjoyable post. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm thinking about starting something different. New projects. I think that's called inspiration. ;>
Hi! Greetings from Finland! The quilts are lovely! I like them very much! It's so nice to find an other quilter from the other side of the world! Have a nice day!
What a beautiful display! Okutama leaves are gorgeous. I love the snuggly colours in the first quilt too. I will share the finished Autumn House in my next blog post- only allowed when I have caught up with everyone!
