Apples

While I work on some finishes to show later I thought I'd share a very favorite recipe given to me by my friend, Rumi.  The apples pictured are called Suncrisp -- slightly tart.

The apples in the bowl are McIntosh.  This is a crock pot recipe but it can be adapted for stove top.

Autumn Time Applesauce

3 pounds apples -- your choice, I like to mix them.  Peel, core and quarter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick (sometimes I use 2)
2 TBSP lemon juice
2 TBSP unsalted butter

1.  Place apples, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon stick in small crock pot.  Cover and cook on high until apples are very tender; about 3 - 4 hours.  Keep checking because some apples are done sooner than others.

2.  Remove cinnamon stick.  Mash any lumps with potato masher.  Pour into storage container.  Add butter and stir.  Let cool and store in refrigerator.

Guess what's on my agenda for later today?

I bought some gorgeous apples at the farmer's market on Saturday and I was thinking about making some applesauce and your/Rumi's crockpot recipe sounds easy and yummy.

Thanks gals!

What a nice recipe! It looks yummy. I'll certainly give it a try, especially since I have EXACTLY the same crock pot you do! My applesauce should turn out great then, right?!

I have never, ever heard of applesauce in a crockpot. I can hardly wait to try this. My kids go through Mott's by the vat!!! :-) Homemade has never appealed to me much because of the mess, but this looks truly fuss free. Thanks for sharing.

Oh.....clever fabric too! :-)

What a yummy fall treat! Thank you, Stephanie! I may have to do it on the stove top :)

Thanks so much for the crock pot applesauce recipe. I have three apple trees in my yard and am always looking for recipes to use them in. They all seem to ripen at the same time even though they are all different varieties and I hate to see them lying on the ground. Applesauce is definitely the answer. And in the crock pot, great!
