Sunday Things

I am very fortunate and thankful to have the most amazing choir of pattern testers.  You may know I call them my Supremes.  These talented ladies are an integral part of my pattern business.  I would like to introduce you to them, one at a time, and let you get to know a little bit about them.   Please stay tuned for my upcoming series -- Sunday with the Supremes.

Abby is feeling a bit punky.  Her new squeaky sheep is doubling as a pillow.

Football season is here and crisp weather is on the way.  I thought I'd share one of my favorite crock pot meals.  Simple and delicious!

Chicken and Rice Gumbo Soup

3/4 pound skinless, boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1 - inch pieces
1/4 pound fully cooked smoked sausage (two 5 - inch sausages), chopped, cubed or sliced
2 medium stalks celery (with leaves), sliced (1 1/4 cups)
1 large carrot, chopped ( 3/4 cup)
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) stewed tomatoes, undrained
5 cups water (I like it less soupy so I reduce the amount to 3 1/2 or 4 cups)
2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules (or 4 cubes)
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 package (10 ounces) frozen cut okra, thawed and drained

*Mix all ingredients except okra in your crock pot/slow cooker.

*Cover and cook on low 7 to 8 hours.

*Stir in okra.  Cover and cook on low heat setting 20 minutes.

Meanwhile fix a pot of white rice and corn muffins.  Enjoy!

~Piecefully, Stephanie

If you gotta lay your head down, a squeaky sheep looks like the best pillow:)

Love the set table. And oh sweet Abby once again.
It took me quite a while to find out what okra is. Had never heard of it. It's an exotic veg here, which you can only get at Asian shops and markets.
Looks like a great soup!

I like that Abby is pictured in your introduction of your new supremes series. I guess that makes her a supreme dog!
I'm looking forward to "meeting" them.

The arrangement of button tea and thread cakes looks delicious! Meeting the Supremes ought to cheer Abby up a bit.
The recipe sounds delicious, but like Simone, I had to check up okra as I only knew it is something you can eat and not just a yellowish colour.

I like that photo of the old wooden spools with the new spools. It is neat that you have the same colors.
give Abby a hug for me.

Lovely blog post!
Love the spotty teapot and cup of dotty buttons.
Adorable picture of Abby with her new toy :)
I think you are quite the cook Stephanie. That is a beautiful plate of food. I find myself looking forward to the foodie posts almost as much as the sewing ones.
I've never used Okra. I believe it is used a lot in Cajun cooking but I read that it goes slimy and that quite put me off.

Abby is looking adorable with her new pal! I hope she is finding comfort in her favorite toys and treats while recovering from the visit to her vet. I will be looking forward to your special Sunday posts :-)

Aww snuggly and squeaky- a wonderful toy. Here the hounds are enjoying the Autumnal weather rubbing their faces into anyone who is wearing a fleece or cardi. Squeak has been known to try to go inside a fleece while it is still being worn. She is such a cheeky madam.

Lovely recipe- looks delicious. I'm looking forward to meeting the Supremes.
