"D" Day

When I found this quilt top earlier this year I didn't need to think twice.  I snatched it up.  It is scrappy and amazing and the price was right.

When I got home and examined it further I noticed it did have some issues.  I didn't care.

I carefully soaked it in cold water and Oxy Clean and a couple of Shout Color Catchers in the water.  Then I laid it outside to dry.

This is one of the issues.  For some reason at some point in time it had been cut.  Don't you wonder why?  Upon further examination I discovered there were puckers and no way, no how would this quilt lay flat, ever.  There was some color run too but not super bad.  Then I put it away, knowing that one day I would have a plan for it.

For some reason today became a day of deconstruction.  I decided to cut the quilt top into squares.  I do have a plan.  I was able to get 34 - 6 1/2" squares out of this quilt.  I have scraps and I saved them.

So many fun fabrics in this quilt.  It's like an I Spy.  I also spent today deconstructing 3 men's shirts, an apron, and an IKEA duvet cover my daughter gave me.  All future projects.

Wow Stephanie, what a beauty, even with its flaws. I often think I would love it if a quilt could talk and tell you what has gone on in it's life, who made it, who loved it...! I love that you are now going to turn it into something else, can't wait to see what you do. xo

What a great idea to deal with a scrappy top that could not be used otherwise.

What oh what will you be doing with those lovely little blocks you cut from the larger piece?? Such fun. I have a great top I need to get quilted so I can use it.

Very intriguing indeed! Glad this will not be folded up and put away again but turned into something else entirely. Looking forward to the next reveal. Those are some really fun fabrics.

Wow! I can't imagine now much patience it must take to stitch each little diamond piece together. The quilter would be so happy if she knew you are saving her hardwork and making it into something to be treasured! I can't wait to see what these squares might become!

Wow, to be able to put the siccors in the star. What a great idea, because now you will actually do something with it. And you get the chance to see each individual piece of fabric..
Good luck with it and the other projects.
