Hexed

With a new pattern coming out often times I like to make it in a different colorway.  I leave the big projects to be quilted by the professionals but this is a smaller version of the same project.  Straight line quilting on my Janome Memory Craft 6600.  Easy.  I've done it lots before.  Well...you see the problem?  I'm quilting away and didn't notice the problem as I was using black thread on black fabric.  When sewing with the purple eventually I noticed this.  It continued after I un-sewed, re-sewed, re-threaded, changed bobbins, changed needles.  I was in Halloween Hell.

This was Wednesday.  On Thursday I was at my most favorite sewing shop.  Patient Patty spent 3 hours with me personally trying to figure out the problem.  She unpicked and I resewed, then we repeated.  She has the same machine and knows it like the back of her hand.  She took it practically apart and cleaned and inspected.  We changed needle brands, sizes and types.  I not only had these mondo skipped stitches but I got itty bitty ones too.  There was talk of stutter steps and stubbed toes.  Then FINALLY she found the perfect solution.  The stars aligned and the stitches were perfect with the Janome red tip 14 needle and the presser foot at a #2.  I was beginning to think my Halloween project was hexed.

So just when you and your machine are "one with the world" one day she throws a hissy fit.  Threaten to replace her or give her free flying lessons.  It may help but then again, it may not!

*Maybe it was the purple -- I normally don't "do" purple.

ugh. I have the same machine and had a few skipped stitches too. So far cleaning the bobbin area (which I do religiously anyway) and changing the needle helped but I'll have to keep this in mind in case it happens again.

Patient Patty deserves a metal! Glad she could fix the problem for your machine.
Now don't let your Christmas projects be hexed ...

I have been having the same problem with my Janome MC 6600 lately! Changing the needle has helped so far.

Oh, man, the least favorite job of sewing--DIAGNOSTICS. Hope the trauma of the purple doesn't sour you on that color forever! Can't wait to see the reveal...

Oh gosh I hate when something like that happens. Everyone could use a Patient Patty in their lives.
I spy Halloween colors in the sneaky peek ?!?

OOOOHHHHHH, that stuff is so frustrating!!! I could feel your pain! I hate it when that happens. Been there with stuff like that on the longarm too. I am relieved that your universe is once again happy and balanced!!

Glad you got it figured out. I have that same sewing machine.

It most definitely was the purple. It affects all machines that way. *wink*

Can't wait for the reveal and yay for Patty!

No not purple! It's my color of choice, I'd say it just a coincidence! I've had stitch problems of late with my Janome 6500! I think it's atmospheric change and the way I bite my lower lip when sewing!!lol Glad you were able to get the stitch quirk resolved.

So glad you found a solution. Slipped stitches is just plain annoying. I had the same problem with my Pfaff. I did clean it recently and also started using a different thread and it seemed to help.

Huge sympathies Stephanie. Usually a new needle will do the trick or a dose of oil and spring clean. I had a Singer 9123 which had so many plastic parts which kept mashing, it very nearly did have a flying lesson! Thankfully my Bernina is a nicely behaved "young" lady. So relieved you found the solution. Lovely Halloween colours. Orange is growing on me but I still prefer rusts. Maybe I am growing up a little bit.
