Last year Connecting Threads sent me a fat quarter stack of Parlor Pets by Jenni Calo. You should click on over because the fabric is now on sale for a super duper price.
I thought my Barefoot in the Park would be a nice pattern to showcase the fun Parlor Pets prints. And Abby seems to really like this quilt.
I added some solids and polka dots (Abby loves polka dots) and made a modified version of Barefoot in the Park. I call it While Abby Sleeps. Appropriate, don't you think?
It's been a quilt top for some time and I finally got it quilted.
Jane Williams is A Lady in Thread and she's a magnificent and creative long arm quilter. She lives in Ohio, not far from me. I first met Jane when I moved to Ohio and started frequenting the quilt shop where she worked. Fast forward lots of years and she now has her own quilting business. Jane is always happy for new customers, in state and out of state, and I am very happy to recommend Jane for your quilting needs. If you're interested please contact her at

She has the sweetest doggie, Mason. Abby would love him.
There were biscuit bribes to get Abby to model!
Ultimately I would like to write this pattern and offer it for sale as a PDF with ALL proceeds going to the animal shelter where Abby adopted us. That is my 2013 goal. I'll keep you posted.
I'd also like to use this quilt as a charity quilt for the animal shelter. I'm still thinking on the best way that will do the most good. Abby likes the idea but she is expecting a new quilt of her own.
I've fallen off of my own PIP wagon and I'm very happy that I can add this PIP to my finishes.

It's an adorable quilt, and more special because you've decided to donate it for a worthwhile cause. Good for you and your generous nature for doing this!
Love the quilt and colors! Abby looks so sweet under it. And look at those bones in ther corner. Could be a nice quilt for my strips ...
Bibi now has the Vintage Spool quilt over her, whenever she is cold (o:
And yes, you should make Abby a quilt too, as she is doing such a wonderful job again in posing. She really wants to tell you something with it.
I’ve fallen of the PIP wagon a long time ago already!
I love your twist on Barefoot in the Park, such a sweet quilt!
Oh, yes, Abby deserves a quilt of her own for all the modelling work! How is she coping with her hip/leg?
That is one very cute dog and I can see she helps you out a lots...Oh and lovely quilts too :)
Very cute, both the quilt and Abby! Great cause too!
What an adorable quilt. I love the pattern and I think your idea of using it to benefit the animal shelter is remarkable!
Abby is such a good dog. Molly needs to take lessons from her.
Wow you are realy in the creative mood ;-))
A fantastic quilt Stephanie !
Abby is cute as can be ...
Lovely doggy quilt and a great idea to use it to support the animal center. Abby as usual is the perfect model - bribing or not.
My four cats all came from shelters. We were not planning to have quite that many but sometimes things happen while youre busy planning otherwise :) There are so many animals in need out there...
Yes, great name, especially with the little doggie biscuit applique in the corner.
Great quilt and the polka dots are a nice addition. That Abby is such a hoot. She always looks like she's really trying to concentrate to do her very best in all of the photos. I especially love the sleeping one! Congratulations on the finish.
So sweet! The quilt is precious and I know the shelter will be thrilled. Good for you! Also, thanks for the info on Jane. She did a lovely job with the quilting. Good to know!
As co-president with hubby for a shelter such as Abby's, I wholeheartedly concur!

Abby was the perfect model for your beautiful quilt and what a great cause you are donating it too.
Abby's quilt is just wonderful! What a darling fabric line. Jane did a wonderful job quilting, too! What a great way to raise proceeds for the shelter! I'm sure there would be a lot of takers for the PDF! Great job modeling, Abby!
Cheers!
Lovely fabrics, great design and beautiful quilting = a gorgeous quilt.
How sweet you are to offer it to raise money for the animal shelter.
I absolutely love the picture of Abby sleeping and the one where she was bribed to pose too :)

Lovely quilt. It is so kind of you to make it for a good cause.
Another beautiful quilt to follow yesterday's post! Abby looks so adorable and proud to be helping. I think the shelter would welcome your generous offer.

Oh Lily saw that and loved it too!!might have to check out the sale.
What a fun and inspiring post! You are always full of great ideas!! I am excited to hear more on what you come up with for the pattern and donations to an animal shelter. I have 5 four legged kiddos(3 dogs, 2 cats)all from rescue shelters. :)
Abby is most accommodating, isn't she? Love the shot of her sleeping under the quilt! Wonderful version and I hope you meet your 2013 goal, it is an admirable one.
Abby looks so sweet sleeping under the quilt. The quilting is really great and I am sure the animal shelter would love it. Maybe they do fund raiser and would have an auction for your quilt.
It sure does look different from the original quilt.
This version with solids looks completely different from the original! Color combinations look great together! Abby is a cutie :)
What an excellent idea!! I just love how your patterns look when made up in different fabrics. Looking forward to the launching of this sweet pattern and an opportunity to help the shelter.
love the fabric, quilt and abby! enjoy your day!!
