Ten Things About You:
1. Tell us a little about your neck of the woods -- how long you've lived there, something unique or interesting, a favorite place to visit? If readers visit what is something they absolutely should not miss?

I am so lucky to live on the most beautiful of Minnesota’s
10,000+ lakes. I grew up on farm and I
have lived within 15 miles of there all my life. There is a view of the lake from nearly every
room in our home including right from our bed.
Every time my Dad visited our home, he said “you have a little piece of
heaven here.”
2. Do you remember a favorite article of clothing, outfit or accessory from childhood, any age, that you'll share with us?
2. Do you remember a favorite article of clothing, outfit or accessory from childhood, any age, that you'll share with us?
My maternal grandmother was an excellent seamstress. She is my sewing idol even though she passed
away when I was only six years old. I
have five sisters and one summer Grandma made us all matching dresses out of
different colors of dotted swiss with twirly skirts. Mine was light blue and I still think that is
why my favorite color is blue. I can
still remember the other: red, pink, chartreuse, yellow and mint green.
3.
Other hobbies -- weaving, roller skating,
skydiving, rollercoaster riding, lion taming, stamp collecting?
My main hobby
includes all kinds of sewing: quilting, adult and children’s garments, doll clothes,
bags, and embroidery. We love to spend
time on the lake all summer, pontooning, swimming and watching the
sunsets. I love to travel but refuse to
leave home in the summer because I might miss a day on the lake. We spend at least a month each winter in
Florida.
4.
What fabrics, prints or colors make your heart
go pitter pat?
I know what I like and I know what I don’t like, but it is
not easy to describe. I like new,
bright, modern designs, old fashioned florals, vintage prints and solids.
5.
I like food -- do you have a favorite food --
either one you make or love to eat anywhere in the world?
My favorite food would be a poppy seed kolachy. My maternal grandmother was born in Czechoslovakia and kolachy is a pastry from there that has been carried down through the generations. My daughter and I get together a few times a year to make poppy seed and prune kolachy.

6. If you have a bucket list what is the first thing on it either as a personal goal, quilting/crafting project you want to make, or maybe a place you've always wanted to visit?
My bucket list would definitely be travel; my husband and I would like to plan a trip to
Europe in the next few years. We would
love to visit Prague, Munich, Rome and as many other cities as we can.
7.
Do you have a favorite poem, story, character,
movie, or song you'd like to share with us? If so, will you tell us a little
something about it?
Bruce Springsteen is still my favorite after all these years
and if I had to choose one of his songs it would be Brilliant Disguise.
8.
Which do you prefer -- sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise is my favorite because I can watch it rise over the
lake from my bed (if I happen to stay in bed that long.)
(this is so gorgeous I thought it worthy of showing again!)
9. What is your favorite month and what makes it
special to you?
I really can’t say I have a favorite month – there is
something special about every one.
10. Are you more of a "finish what I start" kind of gal or "variety is the spice of life" type of crafter?
10. Are you more of a "finish what I start" kind of gal or "variety is the spice of life" type of crafter?
Finish What I Start would be my motto; that would be true
other than one project that has been ignored for so long that my daughter now
started teasing me about it! It will be
finished one day.
Thank you for sharing your gorgeous part of the US with us, Mary. Mary sews for her grandkids and I have to say they are the best dressed grandkids ever!

Terrific interview, it makes me want to run away and live on a lake!
It's great to know more about Mary. She's a sweetheart. I admire her work, and I love the view from her house.
Living in dry SoCalif, it is hard to imagine 10,000 lakes, let alone one right out your window! No wonder she loves it so much :) I think her favorite quilt is gorgeous, and so are her memories of her grandmother's sewing. Thanks for the little peek!
Wonderful to get to know Mary better. I'd love to visit her part of Minnesota!
I've long admired Mary's sewing skills and now it's nice to know a little more about her! I think if I lived on such a beautiful lake I wouldn't want to leave home!
Cheers!
I have been reading Mary's blog since she started. She is so talented. I am sure she is a great pattern tester. Those photos on the lake are awesome.
