A Christmas Poem

Eleven months before Christmas
A plan had been hatched
I cut and I sewed
And I stitched and I patched.

Fabric was flying
Right off of the shelves
So I enlisted the help
Of my 12 Supreme Elves:

Nonnie and Rumi and Candace and Carrie
Margaret, Simone, Ulla and Sherri
Char and Carol, both Marys as well
Checking the patterns for each little detail.

Using dozens of spools
Of bright colors galore
Threads and scraps of fabric
Covered the floor.

Spending quality time
With my sturdy Janome
Making colorful projects
Cozy and homey.

Machine Quilters Linda
And Jackie and Jane
Their quilting so magical
So crazy good it's insane.

Food was about the only thing
Shared on my blog
Filling in the gaps was Miss Abby
My sweet, faithful dog.

With encouraging words
From both family and friends
This journey I was on
Was nearing the end.

In my neck of the woods
By hook and by crook
The ending result
Is my very own book!

My publisher is Martingale
And as of today
I am an "author" and
That's all I can say.

Deadlines are looming
She said with a fright
Happy Christmas to all
And to all a good night.

*I was given permission to spill the beans but may not share the particulars.  This journey began in the Summer of 2011 when Martingale contacted me and asked me to please consider submitting a book proposal.  I nearly fell out of my chair!  I was stunned and flattered.  Never in my life has writing a book ever been even a blip on my polka dot radar screen.   After giving it much thought I kindly said no.  Much time passed and one day a light bulb went on.  I had an idea.  May I say it's exciting and scary and I'm working with some very amazing folks.  Lucky me.  There will be blog absences in case anyone wonders if I'm in a caffeinated tea coma.  Also I may have consumed an entire bag of Holiday Spice drops and a King Size chocolate covered marshmallow snowman recently.

I have the best Supremes keeping my secret.
I have the best kids and mister and the best-est doggie by my side.  Lucky me.

~Piecefully, Stephanie
