The Number 5

COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED!

Three weeks away from home seems like an eternity.  Miss Abby misses me and I miss her back.  Daugher Creations informs me Abby has been sulking and moping.  Pretty sure there will be tail wagging tomorrow night when I walk in the door.  Abby was well loved and cared for by Mr. and Daughter Creations in my absence.  My father had a series of unfortunate health events and at 93 years old he's doing terrific and enjoying continuing improved health.  I'm leaving warm, sunny Southern California for the frozen tundra of Ohio!

*          *          *          *          *
Time flies!  Five years ago I jumped into blogland with both feet.  Wondering if anyone would find me or if I would just "talk" amongst myself.  The exact day was February 5.

To show my appreciation for my many visitiors and to celebrate the number 5 I'm giving away 5 Peek-A-Boo Street patterns.

Since I dislike giveaway rules and I prefer giveaway fun leave a comment telling me if you could paint your house any color what would it be.  I'll go first -- is there any doubt I'd go for lime green?  Abby will select the winners on February 1, her birthday.

***Please go have a look HERE to see something very adorable.

5 wonderful years! And I've been following along almost from the beginning! I don't think we could leave our dog for such a long time...he rarely eats while we're gone...we always feel so bad just leaving for a few days.

The color in my sewing room would make a great color for the whole house...not so sure the family would agree, though!

Sherrill said...

I dunno..I just LOVE red so that'd probably be the color. Though I'm sure I could think of a few more I'd like to see on the outside (but then I could always put them inside, right?). Poor Abby....glad to hear dad's doing better.

Kathryn said...

I don't know that I've followed you for 5 years, but it might be close. Congratulations.

I've always liked those deep red saltbox houses of New England.

Happy Blogaversary! I have missed you. Glad your father is showing some improvement. What a wonderful daughter you are! We just changed our siding from white to a medium grey and I love it. The front door might have to become spring green...doubt hubby would go for polka dots though. Thanks for the giveaway, Stephanie, and welcome home.

I want a dark forest green house with a red door and roof.....

Five years already! Congratulations. I wondered the very same thing (about myself) when I started out. I thought, look at you, so egotistical. What make you think people will even care what you say?

Now I when I don't post in the morning, I get phone calls!

I would paint my house a nice forest green. I like tree houses and that would give me the feel of being smack dab in the middle of nature!

Just for giggles, I would paint mine pink with polka dots. :)

Congratulations on five years, fantastic! Happy to hear your fathers doing better, 93 god bless him. I'd paint my house the color we painted our kitchen, a deep mustard with dark maroon doors and shutters. Happy birthday to Abby, I'm in good company my birthday is February 2. Welcome home, Stephanie!!

How fun to see what she's done with your peek-a-boo! Congratulations on the five year anniversary! Wow! Time really does fly. If I could choose any color for my house it would be orange or a peachy orange since those are my favorite colors! I'd probably trim it in cream as it's my all-time favorite neutral!

If i had my very own druthers..... i'd paint the OUTside of my house two-tone.....live olive green on trims, and rusty redish for the rest.

for the INside i'd definitely use lime green in at least one of the rooms....kitchen, bathroom or laundry room - all of which need to be bright & cheery. den/office would need to be a mustardy gold...... i could go on for pages &pages...

smooches to Abby!!

5 years!!! I'm glad we all found you!
Is polka dotted a color? That would shake things up around here!

Congratulations! 5 years - WOW!!
I'd go for a leaf green or maybe moss green!

Glad to hear your father is doing well again Stephanie!

5 years already, congratulations!

Ha ha, I wouldn’t paint my house in any colour anymore. In the seventies we had orange and brown walls, a green bedroom, a blue kitchen and a yellow guest room. I now prefer light walls, so all the home decor stuff can be appreciated more.

This summer I am going to paint my 1946 red brick bungalow a light mushroom tan-grey with a darker color for the shutters and a black roof - and I do emphasize that ~I~ will be doing this.

Darn nice to see you poke your head in the door, lady. You have been in my thoughts as I have been where you are. Great news that your father is improving - that USMC background ! Certainly you will be welcomed with many open arms tomorrow !

I do believe I have been with you the entire 5 years - have several very cute bags to prove it !

I was just wondering about your CA adventure--glad to know it is all good though you have to leave and comfort another family member :)

Congrats on your five years! So glad I found you here in blogland--and your great heart and designs. Love the new neighborhood being created:) If I could paint my house any color it of course would be GREEN, olive green at that.

You had me giggling with "talk amongst myself" Stephanie! Congratulations on five wonderful years. I'm sure it will be good to be home.
My house has log siding with a green steel roof, so maybe it would look good painted PINK!!

Kaaren said...

Just lime green? And no blue?

I just blogged about my 4th year anniversary. WHo woulda thunk? As a matter of fact when I first started blogging I recall you hosting a tea-themed swap and I was soooooo envious of all the neat stuff everyone was giving and receiving. I've never forgotten that.

SO happy to hear that your Dad is doing well. You've been missed not only by Abby but by us in blogland as well.

What colors would I paint my house if the choice were mine? My faves, of course...red, white and blue with some taupe accents.

Safe trip home!

Pat said...

Love your blog. Congrats on five years. That's amazing. I'd paint my house rich purple with lime trim. At least in fantasy world!

lindsey said...

I just popped over to live, love , quilt and love her blog. Your little houses pattern is great and her colours lovely.
To be honest we have mostly painted our house in white and when we get around to painting the rest it will also be white. I love the way white allows pictures, furniture and fabrics to stand out.

Fabric Fanatic said...

My house now is green. But...when I lived in Mexico, I painted my house green, gold, purple....much to the chagrin of my ex-pat neighbors who all preferred beige! If you can't have a colorful house in Mexico, then where????
Love the peek-a-boo houses nearly as much as I love Abby.

Congratulations on five years. I have really enjoyed reading your blog. Glad to hear your father is doing better. I would paint my house very pale yellow with white trim. I had a house painted that color and it made me feel cheerful every time I looked at it.

Look at poor little Abby missing you. Happy to hear your father is doing much better! Well, i would have a room painted in all kinds of pink. I once had a pink room and a pink bathroom.
Welcome back home. Happy Abby an I am sure happy daughter and dh.

What a lovely dog. Obviously missing her mum.

I would paint my house pink. Not too sure the neighbours would approve though!

Orange! Very definitely orange, the pumpkin kind, not school bus or work truck orange. Love that colour. And, love your blog.....

Five years! Wow! If I could paint my house any color, I would like a nice burgundy.

Blue for when I am happy ( my favourite colour) and Blue for when I am feeling blue!
Poor Abby-- she does know how to put on the sad dog look.
Happy 5th anniversary.

Katie said...

Red of course! :-) Or at least a red front door.

Cindy said...

We WILL be painting our house this year when the temps warm up. I like earthtones and that's exactly what it'll be - a warm, soft brown(isn), tan(isn) earthtone.

And Stephanie, 5 years is quite an accomplishment. Kudos to you.

Abby is already "anticipating" Mommy returning.

Jean said...

I just found your blog today! I was searching for something new, fresh and fun. I think I found it. I am an orange loving girl, so dispite it not being the best house color...I would love an orange house, with white trim and an aqua door!

September Violets said...

Congratulations on your 5-year mark! I've been reading blogs since I first searched 'sewing patterns', probably about 5 years ago too! I only just decided last year to climb on board and see what happens. I'm glad to hear your father is doing well ... my dad turns 90 this year, so I fully understand the concerns surrounding an elderly parent. Poor Abby to be apart for so long ... at least you know she's well cared for right at home. I would paint my house a deep shade of blue that used to be called 'soldier blue', with a mustard coloured door. Wendy

Stephanie said...

I would have an orange and white polka dotted house, definitely an eye opener:)! I LOVE the Peek-A-Boo Street pattern, what fun designs you come up with! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Joyce said...

Right now its gray with red accents....but my choice would be aqua somewhere! Congrats on your milestone!

Kristy said...

So my first thought was purple of course since that is my favorite color. But I don't see too many houses that are purple. So I do like the color yellow and the trim could be blue. It was good to see a picture of Abby even though she looks so sad. Glad to hear your dad is doing better. I love the pattern you are giving away. So sweet those houses. Thanks for all you do for us. Happy Anniversary baby! Glad to hear from you, and that your dad is well. Even though my guy would have a come-undone, I'd like to paint our house with giant quilt patterns in turquoise, purple, and orange. I am smiling at all of your silly friends. Happy Sewing! And, loved the ink and the cute houses. I am going to make one right now!

I woke with you on my mind this morning. Loft Creations was my first destination when I booted up my computer this morning. Glad to see everything is going well and you are on your way home. Whew!! Was very proud to see your bag on the cover of my most recent issue of Connecting Threads. My daughter recognized it as yours right away!! Even though I'm a green person, I think I'd paint my house sky blue, but with green trim. xo, karen

Happy Anniversary Stephanie......my home is white brick with chocolate and lime green trim.....I wouldn't change it, but I might add some polka dots!

Robin's egg blue with cream shutters....congrats on anniversary.

Hi Stephanie :) hope you had a terrific 3 weeks away and got to enjoy the Californian sun. I'm sure Abby will be ecstatic when you walk though the door (today?). Thank s you so much for linking to my little blogpost. I feel a little embarrassed because by now I have lost enough houses for a whol e street and lots of trees too. Must update with new pictures :)

I love color so inside my house I have lots of different colored walls. Red in my bedroom, turquoise in a bathroom, lime green and royal blue in my son's room, ocean blue in my sewing room. Congrats on your 5 years blogging. I have enjoyed it immensely.

Have a safe trip home! I KNOW Abby will be beside herself. And the other Creations, too. 3 weeks is a LONG time. So glad your Dad is doing well. I'd have to paint my house turquoise!

A creamy grey house with a deep periwinkle door!
Love receiving your blog - really brightens my day.

congrats on 5 years. I think I have been around for 4 of those years and enjoyed them all. Well I just had my house painted this summer, but had to stay within the confines of the neighbourhood and style etc. I would love a deep rich, not quite navy blue house with white trim and a red front door. Blue being my favourite colour. I just spoke to my dad in OH and he said the weather isn't too bad. Glad your dad is on the mend and you had some precious time with him. Thanks for the chance. Abby no doubt missed you.

Margaret said...

I am with you. Lime green with purple shutters and orange flowers in the window boxes. Not that I have shutters or a window box but a girl can dream. By the way, February 5 is my DD's birthday. So it would be awesome if I won so I could share with her.

Sandy said...

If I could paint my house it would be a very pale shade of aqua with white trim.If I can't live by the ocean, I can have it in the color of my house. ;-). Thanks for the chance to win Peek-a-Boo Street. I love it.

In the late 1950's my parents painting our Southern California home turquoise and pink. It fit right in with the other houses on the street. I'd go with red, white, and blue for my house.
Prayers for your father,

Congrats to five year in "blogland"!
Abby is fine as ever!
My house would be turquoise, with purple and lime on roof and door!

congratulations on 5 years of blogging! and thank you for the giveaway. If I could paint my house I would paint it white! why, because it is white, but has never been re=painted in the nearly 25 yrs we have been here. I love the crispness of white on our house (well when it was newly white) with the grey trim and all the colors of flowers, trees and herbs, it reminds me of quilts and background fabrics with splashes of color!
Though that lime green you speak of is so very tempting.
Continued recovery for your dad is wished . and do give some doggie luv to that sweet one of yours.
denise/deBrat who once spoke of painting a Dear Jane block on the roof when it got re-shingled years ago. :)

I would paint it butter yellow with cornflower blue trim!! Nothing too wild. I love love love that quilt pattern!!!

If I thought I could get away with it, I'd definitely paint my house purple. That would be fun. At least it would be super easy to tell someone how to find my house. LOL

Poor Abby is going to be wagging her little tail so hard she'll find it hard to stay standing I'm sure.
While it was very stressful for you to be concerned with your father, I'm sure you were very thankful you could be there for him. I'm happy to hear he's doing well. I am currently dealing with stress over my stepmother with some very bad complications after an aortic valve replacement but we cannot go to be with her sadly. She is not doing well and had to be put back onto the ventilator and put into a 'sleep' again to help her body heal as her liver has had problems and her kidneys totally shut down. We're hoping for the best right now. She has had some signs of improvement over the past two days but she has a long way to go yet.

That quilt pattern you're giving away is just adorable, especially with the fabrics you used to make yours. I just love that. Thank you for the chance.

I would paint my house orange! I lived in a neighborhood once that had a bright orange house with white shutters that I LOVED!
Blessings,

Congrats on your milestone.
White would be my choice or light gray. That way I could change it up with accessories and it would take less time than painting walls. Blue, however, is my favrourite colour. The outside of the house could be white with dark gray trim and that way the green grass and tons of flowers would show up nicely.

Cardygirl said...

Happy anniversary! I am currently planning paint for the exterior of my house, so your question was a timely one. I have opted for a charcoal roof, soft grey walls, glossy white trim and a divinely glossy rich violet door!
