What's in Your Wallet?

I believe it's Capital One credit card whose advertising motto is:  What's in your wallet?  I do not have Capital One.  But after getting a call from the fraud division of my credit card company today, that saying came to mind.  This is the second time in just a few short months that I've had very bad people cause me grief.  Pain in the arse having to cut up the old and wait for the new card to arrive.

I am thankful for my vigilant credit card company who monitors card activities.  I nearly laughed when I had to validate the charges, mine or not.  On February 14 -- nothing says Happy Valentine's Day like $800 worth of office supplies charged in Massachusetts.  Definitely not mine.  And I also did not purchase over $500 worth of baby clothes on line.  That's gonna be a well dressed kid.

I'm thinking of going back to cash or check.

I know how you feel. It happened to me about a month ago, airline tickets in New Delhi.

Happened to me a year ago...$100 on itunes...not me! While waiting for my new card, I was amazed at how many places still accepted checks...and of course cash always works!

How frequently does one hear this? There are lots of people out there with no scruples whatsoever!

My new one just came in the mail on Monday. second time this year. I wish the bank would tell us which establishment is having difficulties. I didn't have any weird charges, thank goodness. My daughter had her bank account compromised! That was a pain to deal with.

It happened to my daughter a couple of years ago when she was at school. There were 3 purchases of gas one right after the other. I think they brought all their vehicles to the gas station and filled them up. And she didn't even have a car at school with her.
At least it wasn't fabric purchases, I would have a hard time explaining that, well maybe not!

Only one time we had a charge of $1.00 go through on our credit card from an online purchase and the credit card co called us immediately that they had blocked our account because that's what people do to "test" to see if they can charge more. Wow, thankful for good banks and credit card companies!!

So sorry - My husband had that happen when someone shoulder surfed his credit card number in Orlando while he was travelling on business.
I had to apply for a card and handle a lot of junk because he had to turn around and head out again on Monday morning. Thankfully the company recognized that we couldn't be in Germany and Orlando and France all at the same time. It is a pain, but carrying checks is getting equally dangerous because of electronic checking options.

Many's the day we've thought of doing the same thing! Although I recently tried to pay cash for a jacket in Boulder, Colorado and they said they don't accept cash! We thought that should be illegal!!
Cheers!

That is one great looking wallet, but what a pain in the patootie its contents went through! Sorry this crud has hit you again, and yes, its great to have banks that pay attention always.

The credit card I use exclusively for online purchases has a credit limit of only $250.00 because of this problem.

The big problem occurred when they smashed the van window and dug under the seat for my new leather purse! And my wallet and all my precious photos. My insurance cards, my dr license, et al...........library card. You have no idea what is in your wallet until you lose it!!!!

Maybe two purses. Keep wallet separate? Why do we have to worry about this anyway?

So frustrating! Last month someone racked up $14000.00 on one of my cards! I discovered it when my card was declined at the gas station. My card is never declined, we pay the balance each month.

I also have a tale to share, I was contacted by a online business saying they had trouble putting my order through. I thought I had missed a payment and went to the bank, made a payment and gave them the okay.

Nope didn't work, turns out someone first had charged sme small online horoscope charges and when it was played, went for the five hundred dollar poker stars charge.

The company suspended my card, but no one contacted me until I phone to question the charge.

It was replaced and dang if they didn't try again, this time with very small charges.

Check your computer as mine was only used online, I had a Trojan virus along with some spyware. Thanks to my service provider my computer is cleaned up and I also went to equifax to make sure they hadn't tried to open accounts with my identity on I still have to contact transunion but they are very busy when I call.

Frustrating isn't it!

I'm with you on this! This past October someone opened a personal account in my name, in a state I don't even live in and bought a $3000 computer. The following month someone made charges up in Canada for gas and lodging and we are thousands of miles from Canada and have never even been there! We have Lifelock and at they have been just great in resolving these problems. I expect we will be Lifelock members forever.

Have had to get a new card twice in the last six months. What a pain. I caught it the first time, don't know anyone in Europe so I didn't make a call to France. The second time Chase suspended my card for a small charge that must have looked suspicious. Finally tracked the problem back to Fabric Depot. Would have been nice if they had bothered to tell their customers about it; will be shopping elsewhere.

When two charges for the exact same amount came up on my online statement from a Mailing Place-twice in the same day-all my warning bells began flashing. We got that squared away and have been ok since; but yes indeed, I feel for you-- twice inside such a short period of time. Let's raise a cheer to attentive banks.

That's really anoying but thank godness they're keeping an eye on the transactions on your card. My DH had the same experience not so long ago. His bank monitors electronically and if something is 'out of pattern' the card closes right away. I'm very careful (knock on wood). I always pay via PayPal and have to want something really bad if I am to pay directly with my card information.

So sorry to hear that. It's never happened to us (rapidly knocking wood) and it better stay that way. Good to have a credit card company that monitors. We do too, and we always appreciate it when they phone to inquire about something.

Oh yes, I have had that happen to mine too on several occasions. Very frustrating. But like yours, my credit card company is fantastic.

I had the same thing happen just two weeks ago, also! My local grocery store had a malware theft, and my card number was one that was used a few states away. But, my bank caught it, I was reimbursed, and now have a new card and pin. Is cash the answer for the future?

Bummer! I have had that happen to me a while back. Someone bought $500 worth of clothes at Kohls. It sure is maddening but thank goodness for your company monitoring.

I'm convinced that nothing is safe anymore. I used to say that my Dad was the eternal skeptic but I wish he were still here for me to be able to tell him that he was right...unfortunately. Hopefully you get it all sorted out in a timely fashion.

Now what I really want to say is..."I want your wallet!!!" I L-O-V-E it!!!

That must be so frustrating! I keep a very low credit limit, high computer safety level, use PayPal whenever possible, and hope for the best.

UGH! So sorry you had to deal with that. What a huge pain. Glad the bank was on top of things, though, and you were able to catch it early.
