For 27 years the members of the WWII Forgotten Battalion have been getting together for a reunion. This year the reunion was in Palm Springs, California and hosted by my sister. Eight members attended this year, the youngest is 89 years old and the oldest is 94. Not only do the members and their families attend but also the widows and families of those members who have passed on.
There is always a memorial ceremony honoring not only those who have passed on but all Marines, because as the saying goes "Once a Marine, always a Marine." The ceremony includes laying a memorial wreath. This year the wreath was presented by two Sergeant Majors, past and present. The Sgt Maj on the right is my dad and oldest member to attend the reunions. The Marine Corps dress blues will always be my favorite uniform.
This is the 5th year I have attended the reunion. My sister was lucky to have a bagpiper attend. Bagpipes give me the chills. There is something about the sound of bagpipes that make you feel something you can't express in words.
Now that I'm home I hope to spend some quality time with my sewing machine.
